MAINTENANCE
SPARK PLUG INSPECTION
Remove the engine cover.
Remove the plug maintenance cover (page 6-5).
Disconnect the 3P connector [1] from the direct ignition
coil [2].
Remove the bolt/washers [3], collar [4] and direct
ignition coils. Take care not to an impact or drop the
direct ignition coils. Replace the direct ignition coil if
dropped.
Clean any dirt from around the spark plug bases.
Use a spark plug wrench [1] and remove the spark
plugs.
If the spark plug is dirty, clean the spark plug using a
spark plug cleaner.
Visually inspect the spark plug. Replace the plug if it is
heavily fouled or the insulator [1] is cracked or chipped.
Check the following and replace if necessary.
– Insulator and sealing washer [2] for damage
– Center electrode [3] and side electrode [4] for wear
– Burning condition, coloration
RECOMMENDED SPARK PLUG: IZFR6K-11E (NGK)
Measure the plug gap with a wire-type feeler gauge.
PLUG GAP: 1.00 – 1.10 mm (0.039 – 0.043 in)
SERVICE LIMIT: 1.30 mm (0.051 in)
If the gap is out of specification, replace the plug. Do not
adjust the plug gap.
A loose spark plug can become very hot and can
damage the engine. Overtightening the spark plugs can
damage the threads in the engine.
Install and hand tighten the spark plugs to the cylinder
head, then tighten the spark plugs to the specified
torque.
TORQUE: 18 N·m (1.8 kgf·m, 13 lbf·ft)
Install the direct ignition coils and bolt/washers.
Connect the 3P connector to the direct ignition coil.
Install the plug maintenance cover (page 6-5) and
engine cover.
