Learn about media elements
There are three types of media elements: media, media families, and media print modes. The
printer needs all elements to know how media must be printed.

• Media
The media catalogue lists all media entries that can be selected for jobs.

• Media family
Media families group physical properties of media. A media family includes a reference to a
media print mode.
• Media print mode
Media print modes group properties that define how the printer must handle and print the
media. A media print mode includes a reference to an output profile.
Settings of the VarioPrint i-series media elements
New media that are imported in the media catalogue have factory defined settings. These
settings have been determined by the Océ / Canon organisation to achieve the best print
performance.
The illustration and table below show and describe the settings of the media elements.
