"AIR BAG" MONITOR COUPLER
"AIR BAG" monitor coupler has a diagnosis switch terminal.
When this terminal is grounded, the "AIR BAG" warning lamp
flashes to indicate the diagnostic trouble code.
(For details of diagnostic trouble code, refer to "DIAGNOSTIC
TROUBLE CODE TABLE" in this section.)
SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER (IF EQUIPPED)
WARNING:
D Never attempt to disassemble or repair the seat belt
pretensioner (retractor assembly). If any abnormality
is found, be sure to replace it with new one as an as-
sembly.
D Be sure to read "PRECAUTIONS" in this section be-
fore starting to work and observe every precaution
during work. Neglecting them may result in personal
injury or undeployment of the air bag when necessary.
Some seat belts of the driver and front passenger seats are pro-
vided with a pretensioner as an optional function unit. The preten-
sioner is incorporated in retractor assembly. It will be activated at
the same time as the air bag when an impact at the front of vehicle
exceeds the specified value.
OPERATION OF SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER AT COLLISION
The seat belt pretensioner operates in the order as described be-
low.
1) When SDM senses an impact exceeding the specified value, it
supplies ignition current to the initiator circuit of the seat belt pre-
tensioner and the air bag (inflator) module.
