NOTE
To
ensure audibility and clarity when transmitting with
the
handheld
microphone,
always hold
it as
closely
as
possible
to the lips, then key the
microphone
and speak directly
into
it. Avoid
covering opening
on
back side
of
microphone
for
optimum noise canceling.
STATIC DISCHARGERS
Static wicks (static dischargers)
are
installed
at
various
points
throughout
the
airframe
to
reduce interference
from
precipitation
static.
Under some severe static conditions, loss
of
radio
signals
is
possible even with static dischargers installed. Whenever
possible,
avoid known severe
precipitation
areas
to
prevent
loss
of
dependable radio signals.
lf
avoidance
is
impractical,
minimize
airspeed
and
anticipate temporary
loss
of
radio signals while
in
these areas.
Static
dischargers
lose their
effectiveness
with age,
and
therefore, should be checked periodically
(at least at
every
annual
inspection) by qualified avionics technicians,
etc.
CABIN FEATURES
EMERGENCY LOCATOR TRANSMITTER (ELT)
A
remote
switch/annunciator
is
installed
on the top
center
location
of the copilot's
instrument panel
for control of the
ELT
from
the flight crew
station.
The annunciator, which
is
in the center
of
the
rocker switch,
illuminates
when
the
ELT
transmitter
is
transmitting. The ELT emits
an
omni-directional
signal on
the
international distress frequencies
of
121.5 MHz and 243.0
MHz'
General aviation and
commercial aircraft,
the FAA and CAP
monitor
-121.5
MHz, and
243.O
MHz is
monitored
by the military.
