Steering Gearbox
Installation (cont'dl
Center the cable reel by first rotating it clockwise
u n t i l i t s t o p s , T h e n r o t a t e i t c o u n t e r c l o c k w i s e
(approximately two turns) until the arrow mark on
the label points straight up. Reinstall the steering
wheel (see page 17-35).
Install the steering ioint cover with the clamps and
clros.

9. Reconnect the tie-rod ends to the steering knuckles,
then tighten the castle nut ('96 -'97 model) or nut
{'98 model) to the specified torque, and install new
cotter Dins.
NOTE: Betore connecting the tie-rod ends, wipe off
a n y g r e a s e c o n t a m i n a t i o n f r o m t h e b a l l l o i n t
taoered section and threads.
CAUTION: Torque the csstle nut to the lower torque
spocification, th€n tightsn it only fsr enough to
Elign th€ slot with the pin hol6. Do not align the
nut by loosoning {'96 -'97 modol only}.

Replace.
On reassembly, bend
the cotter Pln as shown.

Install the exhaust pipe A or TWC (see section 9)'
Connect the shift linkage (see section 13 or section
1 4 ) .
Install the front wheels.
After installation, perform the following checks'
. Adjust the front toe (see section 18).
. Check the steering wheel spoke angle' Adjust by
turning the right and left tie-rods, it necessary'
NOTE: Turn the right and left tie-rods equally'
