Performance Test
NOTE: Betore staning the following checks, disconnect
t h e w i r e f r o m t e r m i n a l M , a n d m a k e a c o n n e c t i o n a s
described below using as heavy a wire as possible (prefer-
ably equivalent to the wire used for the car).
Pull-in Coil Test:
Connect the battery as shown. lf the starter pinion pops
out, it is working properly.
CAUTION: Do not leave the battery connected for more
than 10 seconds.
Hold-in Coil Test:
Disconnect the battery from the M terminal. lf the pinion
does not retract, the hold in coil is working properly.
CAUTION: Do not leave the batterv connected for more
than l0 seconds,
Relracting Test:
Disconnect the battery also from the body. It the pinion
retracts immediately, it is working properly.
CAUTION: Do not leave the battery connected for more
than 10 seconds.
Starter No-load Test:
Clamp the starter firmly in a vise.
Connect the starter to the battery as described in
t h e d i a g r a m b e l o w , a n d c o n f i r m t h a t t h e m o t o r
starts and keeps rotating.
