Make suie lifts, iacks and safety stands are placed
properly, and hoist bracket are aftached to the col-
rect position on the engine (see section 11.
Apply paiking brske and block rear wheels so vehicle
will not roll off stands and lall on you while working
undel it.
CAUTION: Use fender covers to avoid damaging paint-
ed surfaces.
1 . D i s c o n n e c t t h e b a t t e r y n e g a t i v e ( - ) t e r m i n a l f r o m
the battery, then remove the positive (+)terminal.
2 . Remove the intake air duct.
D16Y7 engine:
Remove the intake air duct and resonator.
D16Y8 engine:
R e m o v e t h e i n t a k e a i r d u c t a n d t h e a i r c l e a n e r h o u s -
ing assembly.
R e m o v e t h e s t a r t e r c a b l e s a n d c a b l e h o l d e r f r o m
the starter motor.

Remove the transmission ground cable, and discon-
nect the lock up control solenoid connector.
5 . Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) connec,
tor and the countershaft speed sensor connector.
