Charging System
Rotor Slip Ring Test
1. Check the resistance between the slip rings.
There should be 1.8 - 3.0 ohms.
. lf resistance meets the specification, go to step 2.
. l f r e s i s t a n c e d o e s n o t m e e t t h e s D e c i f i c a t i o n .
replace the alternator.
Check that there is no continuity between the slip
rings and the rotor or rotor shaft.
lf the rotor fails either continuity check, replace the
a lternato r.
Stator Test
1. Check that there is continuity between each pair of
leads.

Check that there is no continuity between each lead
and the coil core.
lf the coil fails either continuity check, replace the
alternator.

Alternator Brush Inspection
Separate the drive-end housing from the rear hous-
ing as described on page 23-106.
Separate the rear housing from the stator/rectifier
assembly by removing the four scrsws and the ter-
minal nut from the rear housing (see page 23-,|06).
M e a s u r e t h e l e n g t h o f t h e b r u s h e s w i t h v e r n i e r
calipers.
Alternator Brush Longth:
O Standard (NEW)
O Service Limit
19.0 mm (0.75 in)
5.0 mm (0.20 in)
lf the brushes are less than the service limit, replace
t h e m .
