11 Upgrading the 3G module firmware

11.2.2 Obtaining the upgrading software

To execute firmware upgrading, you need the appropriate loading file for the module requiring upgrading. You also
need information on the type and version of the installed module to determine which firmware versions are compat-
ible.
The firmware for the various types of modules, as well as the possible versions for each of them, is available for the
user from the Teldat Technical Service. The file containing the new firmware for the 3G has a . upf extension. To ob-
tain this firmware, please contact the Teldat Technical Service and give them all the information on the manufacturer
and the model of the 3G module. This information can be found on the device monitoring console as shown in the
following example.

11.2.3 Transferring the software to the router through FTP

The Teldat routers have an FTP server they can transfer files to upgrade the device software to or, to load firmware
for internal devices. This server is only accessible if the device has started up correctly (application executed).
The steps to carry out to execute the transfer are as follows:
(1) Place the upgrading file in a directory in the machine you are going to launch the FTP session. A PC for ex-
ample.
(2) To carry out the upgrading process, the device must have enough space in the memory to store the upgrading
file. Likewise, the FTP temporary buffer must have more space in it than the file you wish to load. We recom-
mend you preconfigure the FTP server with the temp-buff command. For further information on the FTP server,
please see manual Dm724-I FTP Protocol.
Example:
Config>set ftp
-- FTP user configuration --
FTP config> temp-buff 21000000
FTP config>
(3) Connect to the router's FTP server (you need a user and password; by default the user is root without a pass-
word) from the device and directory where the upgrading file is located.
(4) Configure the binary mode through the bin command. You can use the hash command to display a mark during
the downloading process.
(5) Transfer the file containing the firmware through the put file_name.upf command.
(6) Once the transfer has finished, disconnect through the bye command.
