3.3.2 DHCP
The 3Com router is the DHCP server for the Teldat-3Ge-USB. Said protocol is used to configure certain parameters
in the Teldat-3Ge-USB such as the SIM PIN number, the WWAN mobile network APN and the parameter that tells
the Teldat-3Ge-USB to operate in generic mode.
dhcp server ip-pool teldat-3ge
static-bind ip-address 1.1.1.2 mask 255.255.0.0
static-bind client-identifier 656c-6461-74
gateway-list 1.1.1.1
expired unlimited
bootfile-name fwethant.img
tftp-server ip-address 1.1.1.1
option 43 ascii antenna&rt=generic&apn=movistar.es&pin=5710&ntps=172.24.51.39
Use the bootfile option to give the Teldat-3Ge-USB the filename containing its application. Said application is auto-
matically downloaded from the indicated TFTP server, through the tftp-server option (provided this contains a more
updated version than the one currently running on the Teldat-3Ge-USB).
The client-identifier specifies the client-id the router must receive to accept the DHCP request from the Teldat-
3Ge-USB: teldat in ASCII (74656c646174 in hexadecimal). In the 3Com router, drop the first character so it can op-
erate properly.
Use option 43 to pass the configuration parameters so the Teldat-3Ge-USB can operate.
• The sent sentence syntax consists of parameters separated by the & signal.
• Not all parameters are necessary.
• If a parameter isn't sent, the result depends on the default parameter value.
• If you have to enter a special character, use the % symbol followed by the ascii value with 2 hexadecimal digits i.e.
%26. To enter an apn equal to access&network.es, enter it as apn=access%26network.es.
• Some parameters have a shortened version. E.g. the short version for routertype is rt.
The first word in option 43 must be antenna so the Teldat-3Ge-USB accepts the address offered by the router. A
Teldat-3Ge-USB will not accept said address unless it's there.
The idletime (or idle) and Icpecho (or echo) parameters are particularly interesting in cases where you are using
PPPoE to connect the router to the Teldat-3Ge-USB.
• The idletime parameters lets you set the idle time for the PPPoE session in the Teldat-3Ge-USB server. If the
PPPoE session is established and during this time no packets are received from the client, the server drops the
PPPoE session. Therefore, idletime=N where N is the required idletime in seconds. By default idletime is 60
seconds, the equivalent of losing 6 LCP ECHO-REQ packets.
Note
So idletime operates correctly and the Teldat-3Ge-USB server can detect link drops, activate LCP
ECHO-REQ packet sending in the router's dialer interface (router keepalive command).
• The lcpecho parameter activates LCP ECHO-REQ packet sending to the mobile network. By default the Teldat-
3Ge-USB with PPPoE intercepts these packets and responds to them without sending them to the mobile network
(to avoid billing). The lcpecho=yes parameter deactivates LCP ECHO-REQ packet interception.
Note
The 3Com router is limited to 63 characters for the option 43 content. We recommend you use the
shortened version of the parameters in order to save space.
