2 Configuring in Teldat mode

Chapter 2 Configuring in Teldat mode

The basic operating principle in this mode consists of the corporate router accessing the Teldat-3Ge-USB as if it
were a local WWAN cellular interface for the router. The Teldat routers have a WWAN cellular interface (manual
Dm781-I Cellular Interface) so they can access a 3G wireless WAN network. In Teldat operating mode, a new type
of virtual interface is defined, known as rcellular. This connects to the Teldat-3Ge-USB through an L2TP tunnel and
allows the device to be accessed as if it were a local interface.
All the user has to do when configuring the router to work with access to WWAN communications is to change the
PPP base interface, usually a cellular interface, for an rcellular interface in the configuration.
The operating basis for the rcellular interface is the L2TP tunnel. The L2TP configuration (manual Dm760-I) consists
of creating 3 pseudowire sessions to transport the following information:
• Teldat-3Ge-USB monitoring data.
• Backup data. Data sent and received by the Teldat-3Ge-USB are transported through a PPP session. This is
needed for Teldat-3Ge-USB authentication with the WWAN network (HSDPA/HSUPA) and for the device to obtain
an IP address from said network.
• Teldat-3Ge-USB modem firmware updates.

The Teldat-3Ge-USB does not require configuration; all necessary information is built on the router and sent to the
Teldat-3Ge-USB through the DHCP protocol (preconfigured in the router).
