The Teldat-3Ge-USB does not support the voice backup feature included on the Teldat-3Ge device. 1.5 Operating description The Teldat-3Ge-USB boots up without an IP address in its Ethernet interface. It requests an IP address using DHCP and only accepts the address offered by the corporate router, rejecting other addresses from DHCP servers connec- ted to the local corporate network.
  • Page 10: Configuration Modes

The section on configuration of the DHCP protocol establishes how both devices, DHCP client and server, are identi- fied, and the configuration information sent to the Teldat-3Ge-USB. The next stage, once the Teldat-3Ge-USB has a valid IP address, is to establish the mechanism that allows data backup.
  • Page 11 1 Introduction Teldat S.A. Note This manual is intended for technicians who have a basic knowledge of configuring Teldat devices in WWAN, PPP protocol, PPPoE and L2TP connections. We recommend consulting the Teldat-3Ge-USB installation manual (Dm398-I Teldat-3Ge-USB Install- ation) prior to reading this document.
  • Page 12: Chapter 2 Configuring In Teldat Mode

Chapter 2 Configuring in Teldat mode The basic operating principle in this mode consists of the corporate router accessing the Teldat-3Ge-USB as if it were a local WWAN cellular interface for the router. The Teldat routers have a WWAN cellular interface (manual Dm781-I Cellular Interface) so they can access a 3G wireless WAN network.

These tell the application what function each interface is going to have and which Teldat-3Ge-USB device they correspond to; the number fol- lowing each monitor-ifc, ppp-ifc and upgrade-ifc command identifies the Teldat-3Ge-USB they are associated with. If we have a configuration with two Teldat-3Ge-USBs, we can see which device each interface corresponds to by look- ing at the identifier following the monitor-ifc, ppp-ifc and upgrade-ifc commands.

If during a session no new packets are received within this time, the Teldat-3Ge-USB shuts down the session and the call with the mo- bile network. Default idle timeout is 60 seconds, the equivalent of losing 6 LCP ECHO-REQ packets. The option to send LCP-ECHO REQ packets should be enabled in the router so the PPPoE operates correctly.

3.2.1 Virtual-ppp Interface The Cisco router configuration, to connect it to a WWAN network via a Teldat-3Ge-USB with L2TP, creates a virtual- ppp interface. The router, through said interface, establishes an L2TP pseudowire tunnel to negotiate and establish a PPP link with the WWAN mobile network.

The comments for this configuration are the same as for a Teldat router. The Teldat-3Ge-USB firmware is transmitted from the server to the device through TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Pro- tocol). The Teldat-3Ge-USB sends periodic petitions (every 30 seconds) to the TFTP server, checking if the version saved in the server is different to the one currently executing.

A Cisco router, on deactivating the backup link, does not negotiate PPP session closure with the network. Con- sequently, we have to add to the configuration, to resolve this, so the Teldat-3Ge-USB understands the Cisco router has dropped the link. The Teldat-3Ge-USB subsequently needs to release communication with the mobile telephony carrier network.
