8-1. ELECTRIC SYSTEM

STARTING SYSTEM

GENERAL
WARNING
Torque wrench tightening specifications
must be strictly adhered to.
Locking devices when removed (e.g.:
locking tabs, elastic stop nuts, self-locking
fasteners, cotter pins, etc.) must be
replaced.
Hoses, cables or locking ties removed during a
procedure must be reinstalled as per factory
standards.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The starting system is composed of an electric
starter supplier in current by the battery through
a solenoid.
The starter solenoid receives a 12 volt input
from ignition switch and the ground signal is
provided by the ECU when the engine cranking
conditions are met:
- Ignition switch ON.
- Transmission in Park or neutral position and/or
brake lever or pedal held.
- Start button held.
NOTE: If the ignition switch is left ON for more
than 15 minutes, engine will not start unless
ignition switch is turned OFF, then ON again.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Always refer to the WIRING DIAGRAM when
troubleshooting an electrical circuit.
Check all connections, cables and wires.
Tighten any loose connections. Replace any
chafed or corroded wires/cables.
