7.2 Inverter control
Functions, which you need to set in any application with
position control
The functions that you must set in every application with
position control are shown in a dark color in the function
overview above.
Inverter control is responsible for all of the other
inverter functions. Among other things, it defines
how the inverter responds to external control
signals.
Inverter control (Page 115)
The commands from the higher-level control are
sent to the inverter via digital inputs or the
fieldbus. The inverter returns its status signals to
the outputs of the Control Unit or to the fieldbus.
Adapt inputs and outputs (Page 115)
Adapt fieldbus configuration (Page 87)
The motor closed-loop control ensures that the
motor follows the speed setpoint.
Motor control (Page 143)
The basic positioner traverses an axis with posi-
tion control to a target position.

Functions, which you only require in special applications or
which you must adapt
The functions whose parameters you only need to adapt
when actually required are shown in white in the function
overview above.
The setpoint source defines how the speed
setpoint for the motor is specified, e.g. via a
fixed setpoint or the fieldbus.
Setpoints (Page 126)
You only require setpoint processingif you oper-
ate the inverter without position controller, which
means you only operate it in the speed con-
trolled mode.
Setpoint calculation (Page 133)
The protection and monitoring functions avoid
overloads and operating states that could cause
damage to the motor, inverter and driven load.
The motor temperature monitoring, for example,
is set here.
Protection functions (Page 226)
The application-specific functions are available,
e.g. to control a motor holding brake.
Application-specific functions (Page 235)
The safety functions are used in applications
that must fulfill special requirements in terms of
functional safety.
Safe Torque Off (STO) safety function
(Page 255)
The extended safety functions monitor the drive
speed.
The extended safety functions are described in
the "Safety Integrated Function Manual", also
refer to Section: Manuals for your inverter
