Chapter 11. About CIFS

This section describes how to configure CIFS and manage data access using
ProtecTIER Manager.
Important: ProtecTIER FSI support is intended for storing backup images
produced by backup applications and not for primary storage deduplication.
The CIFS interface to ProtecTIER for Windows Servers is supported on a single
node ProtecTIER system. CIFS can coexist with NFS on the same repository, but
not in the same directory. In addition, an 8 way many-to-many replication
topology group is supported.

Setting CIFS authentication

Use the Authentication setup wizard to set the authentication that the ProtecTIER
system uses for working with CIFS clients.
About this task
To begin managing data with CIFS, you must set the authentication to either
Workgroup or Active Directory. In a Workgroup configuration, users are added
using the Users Management wizard in ProtecTIER Manager. In an Active
Directory configuration, users are obtained from the active directory server.
Note: By default, ProtecTIER is set to a Workgroup authentication mode. The
customer is responsible for configuring the Active Directory server.
Procedure
1. From the Systems Management view of ProtecTIER Manager, select CIFS >
