After an alarm occurs, use the BPX switch software to isolate the problem. If a BPX switch part has
failed, then it must be replaced (see Chapter 29, "Replacing Parts").
Preventive Maintenance
You perform most monitoring and maintenance of the BPX switch via the BPX switch operating system
software. Preventive maintenance of the BPX switch hardware is minimal and requires only that you
periodically check:

Software Error and Abort Tables
The BPX software logs noncritical errors into the Software Error Table and contains up to 12 entries.
The BPX 9.3.X software logs critical errors into a separate Software Abort Table, so that there is no
chance of critical errors being overwritten by noncritical errors. It contains up to 12 entries. Use the
command dspabortlog to display the contents of the Software Abort Table and the command
clrabortlog to clear it.

The node supply voltage and internal cabinet temperature by using the dspasm command. The
temperature should not exceed 50°C.
The event log by using the dsplog command.
The Software Abort Table by using the dspabortlog command.
The network alarm status by using the dspalms command.
