Appendix A: Inter-Tel Private Networking

IP Resource Programming

IP Resource Programming
IP networking relies on a unique numbering plan to make connections across the network. You
must assign each IP resource in the network a unique extension that the other IP resources
must be able to recognize. For this reason, Use the P6XXY numbering convention, where XX is
the node number and Y is the IP resource number. For example, if the IP resource is the
second IP resource on node 1, the extension number would be P6012. Also, complete the IP
Networking Planning Sheet, which is available at the end of this appendix, before you begin
programming IP resource networking. If you do not follow a numbering convention and identify
the extensions before programming the IP resources, it will be difficult to successfully set up
your network. For a programming example, see
For details discussed in this procedure, refer to the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming
Guide (part no: 580.8006), as applicable.

Under System\Communication Server, add and equip a T1M or T1M-2 module for
networking.
When prompted, enter the P6XXY extension (for example, P6010) for the local node.
Under System\Devices and Feature Codes\Nodes, create all of the remote nodes.
Program the Description and Username for each node.
For the Processor Module, program the Static IP Address (for example, 192.168.0.1),
Static Subnet Mask, and Static Gateway Address fields. The IP address for the
Processor Expansion Card must be on the same network and subnet mask as the IP
address set for the Processor Module described above.
Under System\Devices and Feature Codes\Nodes\97XXX, create an off-node IP
connection for all connections available on that remote node. Program the Description
and Username for each. Make sure the extension numbers match the unique values
assigned at each node. For example, if creating an off-node IP connection for Node 2,
the extension number must be P6020.
Double-click the remote IP extension and program the Remote IP Address for the
remote node—for example, 192.168.0.2.
