5000 Installation Manual – Issue 2.4, May 2008
Initial Mitel Endpoint – Automatic Configuration (DHCP)
This procedure assumes the Inter-Tel 5000 system is up, configured, and
running—this includes the desired number of Mitel IP endpoints configured in DB
Programming.
Make sure the Inter-Tel 5000 system is up and running, and then make sure you have
done the following (if applicable):
Configured the Mitel IP endpoints in DB Programming (refer to the Inter-Tel 5000
Features and Programming Guide (part no: 580.8006) for details). Also, read
"Notices" on
page
5-101.
If a Mitel IP endpoint is pointing to the Inter-Tel 5000 and the endpoint has not been
configured in DB Programming, the display appears to be downloading but nothing
is actually happening. You must configure the Mitel IP endpoints in DB
Programming before configuring the endpoint.
Check that the following DHCP options have been configured. Keep in mind that
some DHCP servers, typically found in SOHO routers, do not support the ability for
custom options. You can include all parameters within one option or you can
configure several options.
Setting a single option: Using the Windows-provide Option 43, type the
o
following ASCII character string, after clicking once in the ASCII column:
id:ipphone.mitel.com;sw_tftp=<inter-tel 5000 base server IP
address>;call_srv=<inter-tel 5000 base server IP address>;vlan-
1;l2p=6;dscp=46
Setting several options:
o
– Options 128 and 129: Option 128 provides the TFTP address, and
Option 129 provides call control information. Both should be set to the
Inter-Tel 5000 IP address of the Base Server.
– Option 130: Type the text string "MITEL IP PHONE" (case sensitive).
– Mitel also has two additional Options to consider if putting these endpoints
on a separate VLAN:
Option 132: Indicate long integer and set to "VLAN for IP Phone.
Option 133: Indicate long integer and set to "Priority on Vlan." If using
option 132, you must use option 133.
See the troubleshooting section on
(Optional) You can connect a PC to the PC port on the back of the endpoint. If desired,
thread the PC cable through the slot on the back of the installed base unit, as shown for
the LAN cable in Figure 5-61 on
