Advise the customer and plan to do the upgrade when it has the least impact on their
operation.
If the changes affect the Processing Module (PM-1) or Processor Expansion Card (PEC-
1), the Processing Server (PS-1), or the customer database, perform a complete save of
the customer database. For details, see "Saving the System and Voice Processor
Databases" on
page 5-91
and related sections under that title. Also, refer to the
database save and restore information in the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming
Guide (part no: 580.8006).
If external voice processing will be affected, save the voice processing database and
prompts. Refer to the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide (part no:
580.8006) for information. If using Basic Voice Mail only, back up the voice processing
database to a USB flash drive. For details, For details, see "Saving the System and
Voice Processor Databases" on
refer to the voice processor information in the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming
Guide (part no: 580.8006). Inter-Tel does not supply the USB flash drive.
If performing an upgrade, follow the instructions provided with the software for saving,
converting, and restoring software. See "Upgrading System and Application Software"
on
page 5-137
for information.
If adding external voice processing, see the Enterprise
part no. 780.8006, or the Voice Processing Unit Installation Manual, part no. 835.2890.
Install a system battery back-up, such as an uninterruptable power supply (UPS). For
specifications, see "Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Connections" on
not share a UPS with multiple chassis—for example, with both an external voice
processing system and an Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server.
Make sure the software license includes the appropriate features required for the
installation or upgrade. If the license does not match DB Programming, an error
message appears on the LCD panel and administrator endpoint. For additional
information, refer to the software license information in the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and
Programming Guide (part no: 580.8006).
If new cabling is required, run cables to the location and run wiring to any optional
equipment. Assemble the new terminal blocks on the MDF, if required. If any T1 or E1
and/or PRI trunks are to be installed, terminate them on eight-conductor modular jack
[line jack unit] assemblies at the MDF.
Connect any new trunks and module cables to the corresponding terminal blocks (or for
T1/E1 and/or PRI, modular jack assemblies or RJ-45 jacks).
Install any new modules in the chassis and connect them to the cables that run from the
MDF blocks or patch panel.
NOTICE
Before Installing a Dual T1/E1/PRI Module. If you intend to add or replace a Dual
T1/E1/PRI module, system software must first be upgraded to v2.3 or later. For
additional information, refer to the Inter-Tel
