Base Server Interfaces

Base Server Interfaces
The Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server provides multiple access ports to the features
and functionality of the platform. From the front of the chassis, the technician can set-up the
system and program it if desired, read system alarm messages, backup voice mail messages,
and monitor ongoing system events. From the back of the chassis, the technician can connect
system power, a local area network (LAN), trunks and spans, two single line devices, two loop
start trunks, and an external music source, paging system, and voice mail system.

Front of the Chassis

The front of the Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server provides the following interfaces. For
details and illustrations, see "Interfaces on Front of Base Server" on

Back of the Chassis

The back of the Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server provides the following interfaces. For
details and illustrations, see "Interfaces on Back of Base Server" on
Programming information discussed in this section, refer to the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and
Programming Guide (part no. 580.8006).

One 2-line liquid crystal display (LCD) panel with display message controls and accept/
return button.
Three Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports, including:
o Type B port for serial connection to a PC or laptop computer, only for viewing On Line
Monitor output.
o Type A port that accepts a flash drive for backing up voice mail.
o Port for USB security key.
One bay for an Inter-Tel-formatted compact flash memory card that stores system
applications, the system database, and voice mail prompts and received messages.
2 – Loop start trunk circuits in a single port, preprogrammed for connection to the local
telephone company central office (CO) [local exchange] trunks.
2 – Single line circuits in a single port, preprogrammed for connecting analog endpoints.
Power Fail Bypass: If power to the system is interrupted, an internal
electrical relay automatically connects the two single line circuits with the two
loop start trunks to provide direct connection to CO [local exchange] trunk
NOTE
dial tone. Under normal operating conditions, the circuits can be programmed
and used the same as any loop start/local exchange trunks or single line
circuits. However, when system power fails, the circuits automatically
connect, regardless of any reprogramming that may have been done.
1 – RCA socket for connection of an external paging system.
1 – 1/8-inch coaxial stereo socket for connection to a local music source for implementing
Music-On-Hold and/or Background Music.
1 – DB-15 socket for connection to an external Voice Processing Unit or Enterprise
Messaging Unit.
1 – 100Base-T Ethernet socket on a Processor Module (PM-1).
3 – Bays for expansion modules. The expansion module bays can be equipped with any
suitable combination of trunk, span, and single line modules; however, only one SLM-4
can be installed. Connections can be made with loop start [local exchange] trunks or T1,
T1/PRI, or E1/PRI multi-channel spans. Each loop start module (LSM-2 or LSM-4)
provides circuitry for connecting two or four trunks; each T1/E1/PRI module provides
circuitry for connecting one span; and, one SLM-4 module provides circuitry for connecting
four analog single line endpoints. In European market systems, the BRM-S module
provides circuitry for connection of two suitable trunks.
1 – Power cord socket.
