Chapter 4: Specifications

Surge/Spike Protection

Surge/Spike Protection
To reduce the effects of AC voltage surges and spikes that may cause damage to the electronic
components, Inter-Tel recommends installing a surge/spike protector with the following
specifications:
The Inter-Tel CommSource
specifications—part no. 900.0500.

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Connections

To avoid electrically induced performance problems, all associated Inter-Tel 5000 equipment
should be sourced from the same AC phase and ground reference. To assure that the electrical
source is the same, plug Inter-Tel 5000 equipment into the same UPS unit. A common electrical
source is most critical with Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server and associated Digital Equipment
Interface (DEI) units.
Because the CS-5600 Processing Server (PS-1) is IP networked, a common electrical source is
not as critical. However, if wattage and outlets are available, the CS-5600 should be maintained
on the same UPS. The CS-5600 Processing Server (PS-1) does not require its own UPS unit.
Comply with the following electrical requirements when installing or upgrading Inter-Tel 5000
equipment:
Component systems having power supplies include the Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/5600
Communication Server, Digital Expansion Interface DEI(s), and the external voice processing
systems. The systems plug into the battery back-up unit, which must be plugged-in to an
isolated, dedicated circuit having the power specifications identified in "Power Supply" on

Plug Inter-Tel 5000 equipment into the same UPS unit, in particular the Base Server and
associated DEI units. If wattage and outlets are available, the CS-5600 Processing Server
