Check the clock synchronization plan of the site. The ATM or PSTN
synchronization reference link must be connected to the first port of the fiber
group (port 1A or 1B).

Clock Synchronization

When connecting the gateway to the PSTN network, the clock synchronization
methods that should be applied for the PSTN trunks must be reviewed. Typically, the
gateway can receive the synchronization clock from several sources as BITS (Building
Integrated Timing Source), SETS (SDH Equipment Timing Source) or from SONET
SDH links, or regular E1/T1 trunks. To accomplish this, the clock sources must be
prioritized in order to achieve optimal synchronization switches.
The clock synchronization of the Avaya G860 Media Gateway can operate in one of
the following modes:
Avaya G860 Media Gateway Configuration - uses Non-Synchronized mode only,
choosing from the ATM or PSTN interface for the clock reference
4.7.1
Connections for Non-Synchronized Mode - For TPM System
Configurations Only (future)
For TPM + STM-1/OC-3 system configurations, each board is synchronized at the
board level, recovering the clock from STM-1/SDH or OC-3/SONET interface. In case
of failure of the active clock reference, and the APS is enabled, the clock reference is
switched to the new active STM-1/SDH or OC-3/SONET interface together with the
traffic switch. Alternatively, if the APS is disabled, the board clock is switched to
holdover clock.
For the TPM + STM-1/OC-3 System Configuration, to configure the synchronization
clock in the EMS, enter the Clock frame of the gateway and choose the PSTN or ATM
clock source to synchronize all Connections for the TPM + STM-1/OC-3 system
configuration.
