• When you replace a DIMM, the server provides automatic DIMM enablement capability without requiring
you to use the Setup Utility to enable the new DIMM manually.
Attention:
• Mixing single-rank and dual-rank DIMMs is allowed.
• Install DIMMs of the same speed for optimal performance. Otherwise, the BIOS will find and run the
lowest speed among all channels.

Independent memory mode installation order

In independent memory mode, memory channels can be populated with DIMMs in any order and you can
populate all channels for each processor in any order with no matching requirements. Independent memory
mode provides the highest level of memory performance, but lacks failover protection. The DIMM installation
order for independent memory mode varies based on the number of processors and memory modules
installed in the server.
Independent memory mode guidelines:
• Mixing x4/x8, 16Gbit (16GB, 32GB, 64GB)/24Gbit (48GB, 96GB) DIMMs are not allowed in a system.
• When installing DIMMs with different capacities, install the DIMM with the highest capacity first, and install
the DIMMs in the following sequence: Slot 3, 4, 1, 6, 2, 5.

PCIe adapter installation rules and order

PCIe adapters must be installed in a specific order in the server.
Notes:
• Performance may degrade when a x16 PCIe adapter is installed in a x8 lane PCIe slot.
