Typical Alarms and Conditions

Alarm or Condition
On Battery
LED is on.
1 short beep every 5 seconds.
Battery Low
LED is on.
Continuous beep for
10 seconds.
Battery Breaker
LED is on.
1 beep every 3 seconds.
On Bypass
LED is on.
1 beep every 3 seconds.
Bypass Unavailable
LED is flashing slowly.
1 beep every second.

Troubleshooting

The BladeUPS module is designed for durable, automatic operation and also alerts
you whenever potential operating problems may occur. Usually the alarms shown by
the control panel do not mean that the output power is affected. Instead, they are
preventive alarms intended to alert the user. Use the following troubleshooting chart
to determine the UPS alarm condition.
The following table describes typical alarms and conditions. If an alarm appears with a
service code, contact the Help Desk (see page 138).
To check the Event Log for a list of active alarms:
1. Press any button on the front panel display to activate the menu options.
2. Press the button until EVENT LOG displays.
3. Press the button to display the list of alarms and conditions.
Possible Cause
A utility failure has occurred and the UPS
is in Battery mode.
The UPS is in Battery mode and the
battery is running low.
The UPS does not recognize the internal
batteries.
The UPS is in Bypass mode.
Bypass is not available because the UPS
may be receiving bypass utility power that
may be unstable or in brownout
conditions.

Action
The UPS is powering the equipment with battery power. Prepare
your equipment for shutdown.
This warning is approximate, and the actual time to shutdown may
vary significantly. Depending on the UPS load and number of
Extended Battery Modules (EBMs), the Battery Low warning may
occur before the batteries reach 25% capacity. See Table 22 on
page 132 for estimated runtimes and "Setting the Battery Low
Alarm Level" on page 105 for configuration information.
When utility power is restored, the UPS restarts automatically,
provides power to the load, and charges the battery.
Verify that the UPS battery circuit breaker is in the ON (|) position.
If the condition persists, contact your service representative.
The equipment transferred to bypass utility power. Battery mode
is not available and your equipment is not protected; however, the
utility power continues to be passively filtered by the UPS. Check
for one of the following alarms: overtemperature, overload, UPS
failure, hot swap, or remote emergency power-off (REPO).
Check the bypass utility. The UPS continues to supply power to
your equipment. Check for one of the following alarms: bypass
over or under voltage, bypass over or under frequency, or bypass
unavailable.
