L/R, CTR, and Aux/Group Assigns

The L/R and CTR Channel Assign buttons glow green when pressed. The ASSIGN buttons
on the individual channnels that are assigned to that bus glow green. Press the ASSIGN
button on an individual channel to assign/de-assign it from the selected bus (the ASSIGN
button glows green when enabled).
On an analog console, the number of groups and auxes is normally fixed. The UMX.96
uses a shared mix bus architecture that shares the mix buses between group and aux as-
signments. Both terminate at analog outputs but, like an analog console, an aux bus is fed
by adjustable sends from each channel, whereas a group is fed directly from the channel
faders and the overall group mix can return to the main Left, Right, and Center/Mono
output buses.
Configuration of the Aux/Groups is described in Section 12.3.
8.2.3.1

Aux/Group Sends

The Aux/Group buttons (1-24) glow blue for aux assignment, and green for group assign-
ment. For aux sends, the V-Pot knob adjusts the aux send level. For groups, turning the V-Pot
has no function. The V-Pot LEDs display the level setting for aux sends. For group sends,
only the three corner LEDs are illuminated to denote a group assignment. The ASSIGN but-
ton toggles In/Out for the channel being sent to the corresponding output and lights blue
or green depending on the selected output assignment. The bottom line of the scribble
strip displays the name of the send: L-R, mono, grp 1-24, aux 1-24, or any custom names.
Pressing the V-Pot button toggles the pre-DSP/pre-fader/post-fader status for the aux
send from that channel; the LCD temporarily displays >DSP, >FDR, or FDR>. When either
of the pre positions is selected, the bottom V-Pot LED illuminates. Group sends are always
post-fader sends; the concept of pre-fader does not apply.
Holding CTRL and pressing an Aux/Group, L/R or CTR Channel Assign button resets all
channel's routing to the default. For L/R this is assigned, for groups and CTR this is unas-
signed, and for auxes the default state is assigned with levels all the way off.
Holding SHIFT and pressing an Aux/Group Channel Assign button alternates the state of
the associated mix bus between group and aux. This operation prompts for confirmation on
the console VCA Control scribble strip. Once confirmed, the mode changes and the channel
assignments for the newly created group or aux are set to the defaults.

Stereo Linking Auxes and Groups

Aux/Group Sends can be linked for stereo operation from the control surface by holding
two adjacent odd even Aux/Group Channel Assign buttons for two seconds. The console
VCA Control scribble strip prompts to confirm linking. When confirmed, the state and all
settings for the odd aux/group master are copied over to the even Aux/Group master. The
send levels and on/off state for the odd numbered Aux/Group are used at each channel.
From then on, adjusting one Aux/Group adjusts the other. Linking can also be done from
the touchscreen as described in Section 12.2.2.
Once linked, pressing either button in the Channel Assign section lights both and for
auxes, the V-Pot adjusts the stereo level. The stereo aux pan is adjusted as described in
the section below.
To unlink a pair of aux/groups, simply press and hold both their numbered Channel As-
sign buttons for two seconds again. Another message appears on the console to confirm
your decisions. No values are changed when unlinking, but from that point on the two
Aux/Groups can be adjusted independently.
