OFF-SEASON STORAGE
9. To protect the engine from rust buildup during storage,
the engine must be fogged. Perform the following:
a. Raise the snowmobile so the track clears the
ground.
b. Open the shroud and remove the airbox (Figure 1)
sufficiently so there is access to the carburetors.
e. Start the engine and allow it to warm to normal op-
erating temperature.

d. Spray engine preservative (storage oil) into all car-
buretors until the engine smokes heavily or begins
to stall.
f. Reinstall the airbox.
CAUTION
To prevent expensive engine damage, clean
the area around the sparkplug holes before
removing the sparkplugs.
g. Remove the spark plugs (Figure 2). Reconnect the
spark plugs to their plug caps to ground them.

i. Pull the recoil starter handle several times to distrib-
ute the oil throughout the cylinder.
j. Wipe a film of oil onto the spark plug threads and
reinstall the spark plugs. Reconnect the high tension
leads to the plugs.
CA UTION
During the storage period, do not run the
engine.
10. On electric start models remove the battery and coat
the cable terminals with petroleum jelly. Check the elec-
trolyte level and refill with distilled water if it is low. Store
the battery in an area where it will not freeze and recharge
it once each month.
11. Plug the end of the muffler with a rag to prevent mois-
ture from entering. Then tag the machine with a note as a
reminder to remove the rag before restarting the engine
next season.
12. Remove the drive belt (Figure 3) and store it on a flat
surface.
Remove and service the primary and secondary
sheaves as described in Chapter Ten. Replace worn or
damaged parts as required.
14. Clean the driven shaft (jackshaft) thoroughly.
15. Reinstall the primary and secondary sheaves. Tighten
the bolts to the torque specification listed in Chapter Ten.
16. Install and secure the belt shield.

gas appliance pilot lights. Do not smoke in
the area. Keep a BC-rated fire extinguisher
handy.
