Throttle OverrideSystem in this chapterfir

First check the fuses as described under Fuses in
this chapter.
Check the battery- as described in Chapter Three;
bring the battery to the correct state of charge, if re-
quired.
Disconnect the negative battery- cable if the switch
connectors are not disconnected in the circuit.
Do not start the engine with the negative
battery cable disconnected or there will be
damage to the wiring.

After locating a defective circuit, check the connec-
tors to make sure they are clean and properly eon-
nected. Check all wires going into a connector
housing to make sure each wire is properly posi-
tioned and the wire end is not loose.
Left
Handlebar
The headlight beam switch (Figure 31) and brake
switch (Figure 32) are in the left switch housing.
1. Remove the rear handlebar cover.
2. Disconnect the switch electrical connector.
3. Remove the switch as follows:
a. Headlight beam switch-Remove the screw retain-
ing the back of the switch in the housing, then re-
move the switch.

4. Installation is the reverse of the preceding steps.
Right Handlebar Switch
The engine stop switch and throttle switch are mounted
in the right handlebar switch assembly (Figure 33). If ei-
ther switch is damaged, replace the complete right handle-
bar switch assembly; individual switches are not available
from Yamaha.
NOTE
The throttle switch is part o f the throttle
override system. Refer to Throttle Override
System in this chapter.

housing and turn the housing over.
4. Remove the bottom switch cover and disconnect the
throttle cable at the throttle.
