This chapter covers service procedures for the water
pump, connecting hoses and heat exchangers.
Cooling system flushing procedures are in Chapter
Three.
The cooling system is a closed, liquid cooling system.
During operation, the coolant heats up and expands, thus
pressurizing the system. Coolant in the system transfers
heat from the engine to the heat exchangers. Coolant in
the engine also passes through the carburetor heater sys-
tem.
The liquid cooling system (Figure 1) consists of a pres-
sure cap, water pump, coolant reservoir, heat exchangers
and cylinder head.
Do not remove the pressure cap (Figure 2)
when
the engine is hot. The coolant is very
hot and under pressure. Severe scalding
could result i f the coolant comes in contact
skin.
