3. Check the steering relay arm for wear, cracks or other
damage.
the bearings as a set, if necessary.
Cheek the pivot bolt (Figure 29) for thread damage or
cracks along the bolt. Replace the bolt if necessary.
STEERING ADJUSTMENT
Before checking the steering adjustment, check the
steering assembly for loose or missing fasteners or dam-
aged parts.
1. Park the snowmobile on a level surface so the skis and
the snowmobile are pointing in the same direction.
2. The handlebar should face straight ahead.
3. If the handlebar is not properly aligned, perform the
following steps.
NOTE
The jam nut at the front end of the steering
relay rod (A, Figure 27) has left-hand
threads.
4. Loosen the
jam nuts on the steering relay rod.
5. Engage the flat on the steering rod with a wrench and
rotate the rod. Rotate the rod as needed to change the posi-
tion of the handlebar.
6. Tighten the jam nuts on the steering rod to 25 N*m (18
Ski Toe-Out
Park the snowmobile on a level surface.
2. Position the snowmobile so the skis are pointing
straight ahead.
3. Measure the distance between the ski centerlines at the
front (A, Figure 30) and rear (B) of the skis.
4. Distance A must be greater than distance B, which re-
sults in ski toe-out. Refer to Table 2 for the specified
toe-out for each model.
5. To adjust ski toe-out, proceed as follows:
NOTE
The jam nut at the outer end of the tie rod
has left-hand threads.
a. Loosen the jam nuts (Figure 31) at both ends
both tie rods,
b. Engage the flat on each tie rod with a wrench and
rotate the tie rods to achieve the desired toe-out. Ro-
tate each tie rod the same amount to maintain proper
c. Tighten the jam nuts on the tie rods to 25 N*m (18
Spindle Camber
Spindle camber is the inclination of the spindle shaft
from a zero-degree vertical position. A perfectly vertical
spindle has zero camber. If the top of the spindle is tilted
toward the snowmobile, the spindle has negative camber.
