e. Tighten the outer tie rod end bolts to 42 N*m (30
f. After installing the tie rods andlor steering relay
rod, check ski alignment as described in this chap-
ter.
Steering Relay Arm
Refer to Figure 22.

2. Remove the exhaust system as described in Chapter
Five.
3. Unbolt and remove the exhaust manifold from the cyl-
inders.
4. Disconnect both tie rods from the steering relay arm
5. Disconnect the steering relay rod from the steering re-
lay arm (A, Figure 27).
6. Unscrew the pivot bolt (D, Figure 27).
8. Inspect the relay arm as described in the following pro-
cedure.
9. Installation is the reverse of the preceding steps. Note
the following.
Wipe away any old grease on the components.
Install the bushings into the steering arm so the
bushings are approximately 1 mm (0.03 1 in.) below
the end of the bore.
Lubricate moving parts with a low-temperature
grease before installation.
Refer to Figure 22 and assemble the steering relay
arm assembly. Tighten the pivot bolt to 80 W m (59
Using a hand-operated grease gun, inject grease
into the fitting on the steering relay arm.
f. Check steering relay arm movement by turning the
arm by hand. The steering arm should pivot
smoothly with no roughness or other damage.
Inspection
1. Clean the steering relay arm in solvent and dry thor-
oughly.
2. If paint has been removed from the steering relay arm
because of cleaning or through use, touch up these areas
before installation.
