DRIVE SYSTEM
Removal
The Yamaha Primary Sheave Holder (part No.
YS-01880) (Figure 23) and the Yamaha Primary Sheave
Puller (part Nos. YS-01881-1 and YS-01882-1) (Figure
24) are required to remove the primary sheave.
NOTE
Remove the side panel rubber plug for ac-
cess to the sheave bolt.
1. Remove the drive belt as described in this chapter.
2. Hold the primary sheave with the holder and loosen the
sheave bolt. Remove the bolt and lockwasher.
3. Install the sheave puller. Then continue to hold the
sheave with the sheave holder and tighten the sheave
puller.
NOTE
It may be necessary to rap sharply on the
head of the puller to loosen the primary
sheave from the crankshaj2.
4. When the primary sheave is loose, remove the puller.
Disassembly
The primary sheave is under spring pres-
sure. Use the Yamaha special tool or an
equivalent tool during disassembly and re-
assembly, or refer service to a dealership.
1. Attach the sheave compressor (Yamaha sheave com-
pressor part No. Y S28891 or equivalent) onto the primary
sheave and compress the primary sheave spring (Figure
25).
2. Remove the sheave cap bolts (A, Figure 26) and re-
move the sheave cap (B).
3. Remove the sheave compressor.
4. Remove the primary sheave spring (Figure 27).
5. Disassemble the spider roller and bushing assembly as
follows:
a. Remove the nut (Figure 28) and washer.
Remove the remaining components (Figure 29).
inspection and reassembly. Do not intermix parts.
6. Remove the weights from the sliding sheave as fol-
lows:
a. Remove the pivot bolt retaining nut (A, Figure 30).
