OIL INJECTION SYSTEM

OIL PUMP

Removal
This procedure describes steps to remove the oil pump
and gear assembly (Figure 6).
1. If the engine is installed in the frame, observe the fol-
lowing:
Remove the carburetors as described in Chapter
Five.
Disconnect the oil pump cable from the oil pump
control lever.
Detach the main oil hose at the oil pump and plug
the hose to prevent leakage.
2. Detach the outlet lines from the pump.
to the crankcase.
4. Pull the pump away from the crankcase.
NOTE
The oil pump is driven by the cross-shaft in
the crankcase thai also drives the water
pump impeller. The cross-shaft is accessible
after disassembling the crankcase.
Inspection
1. Do not disassemble the oil pump. Individual parts are
not available. If damaged, replace. the entire oil pump as-
sembly.
2. Outlet hoses contain check valves that should permit
oil to flow out, but not drain back. Check the valves for
proper operation.
3. Check the oil hose fittings for tightness.
4. Move the oil pump operating arm (A, Figure 8) and
check for tightness or other damage. Replace the oil pump
if necessary.
1. Install a new O-ring seal (B, Figure 8).
2. Align the slot in the oil pump with the tang on the drive
shaft, then install the pump and secure it with the retaining
screws (Figure 7).
3. Attach the hoses to the pump. Make sure to install hose
clamps on all hose ends.
4. Connect the oil pump cable at the oil pump.
5. Bleed the oil pump as described in this chapter.
6. Install the carburetors as described in Chapter Five.
7. Synchronize the carburetors as described in Chapter
Three.
8. Adjust the oil pump as described in Chapter Three.
