3. Remove the brake disc (B, Figure 29).
4. If necessary, remove the drive key (Figure 30) from
the jackshaft.

Measure brake disc thickness where the
pads contact the disc, not at the edge ofthe
disc.
5. Measure the thickness of the brake disc. Replace the
brake disc if the thickness is less than 9.5 mm (0.374 in.)
or the disc is damaged.

BLEEDING THE BRAKE SYSTEM

This procedure is necessary only when the brake feels
spongy, there is a leak in the hydraulic system, a compo-
nent has been replaced or the brake fluid has been re-
placed.

tainer with enough fresh brake fluid to keep the hose ends
submerged. The hoses should be long enough so a loop
can be made higher than the bleeder valve to prevent air
from being drawn into the caliper during bleeding.

2. Clean the top of the master cylinder of all dirt and de-
bris. Remove the cover and diaphragm (Figure 34). Fill
the reservoir to about 1/4-5/16 in. (6.4-7.9 mm) from the
top. Reinstall the diaphragm to prevent the entry of dirt
and moisture.
