To test the fuel level sender, disconnect the sender lead
The ohmmeter should read 4-10 ohms when the fuel tank
is full and 90-100 ohms when the fuel tank is empty.
To replace the fuel level sensor, follow these steps:
1. Remove and drain the fuel tank as described in Chapter
Five.
2. Remove the screws and washers securing the sender to
the fuel tank.
3. Remove the sender and O-ring.
4. Reverse the removal procedure to install the fuel level
sender. Tighten the retaining screws securely and evenly.

OIL LEVEL SENDER TESTING

1. Open the shroud.
2. Disconnect the oil level sender two-prong electrical
connector leading from the oil level sender in the oil tank
(C, Figure 36).
3. Remove the oil level sender from the oil tank (D, Fig-
ure 36). Wipe the sender of all oil. Cover the oil tank
sender opening.
4. Remove the oil level warning light bulb and socket
from the instrument panel.
5. Connect a 12-volt battery to the oil level sender and oil
level warning light bulb and socket as shown in Figure
37.
6. Check the bulb with the oil level sender held in its
mounting position and then with the sender turned upside
down. Interpret the results as follows:
a. Oil level sender held in original mounting position:
The light should come on and stay on.

8. Reverse Steps 1-4 to install the oil level sender.
THERMOSWITCH TESTING
The thermoswitoh must be handled with care. If it is
dropped or otherwise abused when handling it, replace it.
1. Drain the cooling system as described in Chapter
Three.
2. Disconnect the wire connector from the thermoswitch,
then remove the thermoswitch (Figure 38).
3.
Pour some water into a container that can be heated.
Suspend a thermometer in the container.

NOTE
Make sure the thermometer does not touch
the sides or bottom of the container.
4. Connect an ohmmeter to the thennoswitch leads (Fig-
ure 39) and suspend the top of the thennoswitch in the
water as it is being heated. Switch the ohmmeter to the R
1 scale.

5. Continuity should not be indicated until the water tem-
perature reaches 98O C (209O
