b. Unscrew the pivot bushing retaining setscrews (B,
Figure 30).
c. Remove the weight, washers and bushing (Figure
31).
7. If further disassembly of the spider, fixed sheave and
sliding sheave is necessary, take the assembly to a
rotate the components during disassembly and reassem-
bly.
Inspection
Step 1 describes cleaning the primary
sheave assembly. Do not clean the rollers
and weights with solvent. Solvent will dam-
age the Duralon bztshings.
1 Clean all parts, except the rollers and weights; thor-
oughly in solvent. Wipe the rollers and weights with a rag.
2. Remove all Loctite residue from all threads.
3. Inspect the sliding and fixed sheaves and the primary
sheave cap for cracks or damage.
4. Inspect the sheave drive belt surfaces for rubber or rust
buildup. For proper operation, the sheave surfaces must
be clean. Remove robber or rust debris with a coarse grade
sandpaper and finish with 400 wet-or-dry sandpaper.
5. Inspect the primary sheave spring (Figure 32) for
cracks or distortion. If the spring is in good condition,
measure its free length. Replace the spring if its free
length is shorter than the length specified in Tables 4-11.
Replace the spring with the same color code.
6. The spider is cast into the post. Check both parts for
looseness by pulling them by hand. Replace the assembly
if loose.
7. Inspect the sheave cap bushing (A, Figure
damage and replace if it is.
8. Measure the clearance on each side of each slider half
(Figure 34). Add the clearances on both sides of each
slider pair. If the total clearance exceeds 0.3 mm (0.012
in.) for each pair, replace that pair of slider halves.
9. See Figure 31. Inspect the face of each weight for
wear, cracks or scoring. Each weight must rotate freely at
its pivot point. Cheek the fit of rotation parts for excessive
wear. Measure the inside diameter of the bushing and
compare with the wear limit specified in Table 14. Install
a new bushing if the diameter exceeds the wear limit.
Make sure to install
material and in the same position as the
original rivet, otherwise, pri~1ary sheave
operation will be affected.
10. Check the rivets in the weights for tightness and dam-
age. If a rivet must be removed, proceed as follows:
Note the rivet material, steel or aluminum, and the
position of the rivet in the weight.
Drill out the rivet and obtain a new rivet from a
Install a new rivet by inserting the rivet into the
