The handlebar grips on all models are equipped with a
heating element that is molded into the grip.
2. Using a suitable utility knife, cut the grip lengthwise
and peel the grip off the handlebar.
3. Clean any adhesive residue off the handlebar.
Do not use any grease, soap or other Izibri-
cant to install grips.
4. Install the new handlebar grip and connect the heater
wires.
5. Make sure the grips are secure before riding the snow-
mobile.
STEERING SYSTEM
Steering Column
Refer to Figure 22.
3. Detach the steering relay rod end (Figure 23) from the
steering column arm.
Note the position of any interfering wires or
hoses in order reinstall them in their orig-
to
inal location during reassembly.
4. Bend back the ears on each lockplate (A, Figure 24).
5. Remove the retaining nuts (B, Figure 24) from the up-
per and lower bearing holders and bearing halves. Then
remove the steering column.
6. Inspect the steering column as described in this chap-
ter.
7. Install in the reverse of removal while observing the
following:
a. Apply a low-temperature grease to the bearing
halves before assembly.
b. Install the collars (Figure 25).
c. Install the upper bearing holder (Figure 26) so the
cable loop is down.
(1 7 ft-lb.). Tighten the relay rod end nut to 35 N*m
(25 ft.-lb. j.
Inspection
1. Clean all components thoroughly in solvent. Remove
all grease residue from the bearing halves.
NOTE
2. Visually check the steering column for cracks, deep
scoring or other damage.
3. Inspect the steering bearing halves for cracks, deep
scoring or excessive wear.
Steering Relay Rod and
steering relay rod (13, Figure 22) connects the steer-

ing column to the relay arm (20). Tie rods (25) connect the
relay arm to the steering arms located at the top of each
steering spindle.
The outer jam nuts on the tie rods have
left-hand threads.
1. Remove the engine as described in Chapter Four.
2. Detach the tie rods as required. See Figure 22.
3. Detach the steering relay rod from the relay arm (A,
Figure 27) and steering column arm (Figure 23).
4. Inspect each tie rod and the steering relay rod as de-
scribed in the following procedure.
5. Installation is the reverse of the preceding steps. Note
the following:
NOTE
The exposed threads at both ends of the tie
rods or relay rod should be equal. Ifnot, ro-
tate the rod ends according&.
Install the steering relay rod so the end nearer the
flat on the shaft is connected to the relay arm
Figure 27).
Tighten the relay rod end nuts to 35 W m (25 ft.-lb.).
Install the tie rods so the end (A, Figure 27) nearer
the flat on the tie rod is attached to the steering
arm on the spindle.
Tighten the inner tie rod end nuts to 35 N*m (25
