Expanded Memory
If at least 1MB of memory is installed on the NEATsx, the ex
panded memory feature can be used. The NEAT ChipSet has a built-in
memory controller for the LIM (Lotus-Intel-Microsoft) Expanded
Memory Specification Version 3.2. When the driver EMM.SYS is
loaded through the CONFIG.SYS file, the system supports EMS 4.0.
Either allows up to eight megabytes of memory to be configured with
out requiring a separate EMS Card. The QuickSet program described
later enables and configures the EMS function of the board. If you use
EMS version 4.0, you will also need to copy the EMS driver file from
the NEATsx disk to your start-up disk. Instructions on how to com
plete these procedures are provided in the Software Setup section.
The CS8281 NEATsx CHIPSet
The NEAT Chip Set from Chips and Technologies allows the
programming of many system board functions. The set is comprised
of four LSI (Large Scale Integration) chips that enable the CPU and
AT bus clock rates to be programmed as well as memory, I/O wait
states and command delays. The DRAM type, Shadow RAM capabil
ity and DMA wait states can also be programmed. The set also con
tains 114 bytes of CMOS RAM for storage of the additional configu
ration information created by the QuickSet program.
