The NEATsx currently uses the AMI BIOS from American
Megatrends Inc. The Shadow RAM feature mentioned previously
takes the information in the BIOS chips and places a copy of it in the
computer's RAM. This speeds up operation of the system because the
microprocessor can access the information more quickly.
AMI BIOS
The AMI BIOS, in addition to the BIOS program itself, con
tains two setup programs that are called up when the system boots up.
These programs are called Setup and Extended Setup. The Setup pro
gram records information about the hardware configuration of your
system. The Extended Setup is a program included to enable the pro
gramming of the NEAT chip set.
The NEATsx, however, does not need to use the Extended
Setup program that is provided in the AMI BIOS. The QuickSet pro
gram provided on your NEATsx disk replaces the AMI extended
setup. Do not use the AMI Extended Setup program to setup your
NEATsx unless you fully understand it. It is much more difficult to
use correctly. You might lock yourself out of your system if the wrong
configuration is entered. The QuickSet documentation on the NEATsx
disk explains what to do if this happens. If you haven't printed a copy
you won't be able to read this file. Simply put, if you have a problem,
turn the computer off, hold down the Ins key, turn the computer on
and keep the key pressed until the computer boots up.
