Installing Upgrades
♦ Press chip into the socket
Using either your fingers or a special chip inserting tool, press
the chip into the socket. First gently press the chip in just a little; then
check that all pins are going into the receptacles without bending. If
the chip doesn't go in smoothly, improve the alignment of the pins
within the socket. You can bend the pins slightly with gentle pressure
if necessary, but be careful when doing this. Finally, firmly press the
chip into the socket as far as it will go using moderate force. Repeat
the previous sequence until you have installed all the chips required.
The SIP modules are installed similarly. First be sure that the
modules are oriented correcdy. Inserting the modules is only slightly
different than with DIP DRAMs. Just make sure that all pins insert di
rectly into the correct holes, and that none of them are bent in the
process.
