Classical IP ATM
The CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM switch allows you to use IP over ATM
to connect ATM workstations and servers. For a view of the CoreBuilder
7000 family ATM switch using IP over ATM within a network, see
"Classical IP ATM Networks" on page 24 in the Operations Guide.
Virtual Networks
With the CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM switch you can establish virtual
networks across the enterprise using ATM and LAN Emulation. Segments
in a virtual network can incorporate legacy LANs and ATM devices using
LAN Emulation, allowing you to organize network users into logical
groups, regardless of their physical location. Using this feature, you can
set up workgroups composed of members from various departments or
business units around the enterprise, and centralize servers into server
farms for better administration. For more information on Virtual
Networks, see Chapter 8 in the Operations Guide.
LAN Emulation Network over WAN
The CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM switch uses VP tunneling to establish
LANE networks over existing WANs. For more details, see "VP Tunneling
through a WAN VP Switch" on page 102 in the Operations Guide.
