Removing/installing front wheel

Raise the front wheel with the front wheel stand,
BMW No. 36 9 970.
Remove front section of front mudguard.

Important:
Avoid scratching the wheel rim; if necessary mask
off the brake caliper. Do not tilt the brake caliper.
There is a risk of damage to the brake pads.

Note:
Do not apply handbrake lever with brake calipers re-
moved/front wheel removed.
Remove left and right brake calipers.
Remove hex bolt (7).
Loosen left (6) and right (2) clamping screws in
telescopic fork.
Pull the quick-release axle (1) out to the right,
noting the right bearing cover (3) and the left
spacing bushing (5).
Remove the front wheel (4).

Installation is the reverse of the removal proce-
dure. Pay particular attention to the following:
Grease the quick-release axle (1) and bearing
cover (3) lightly with Shell Retinax EP2.

Note:
Tighten the quick-release axle (1) first, then the left
clamping screw (2). Compress the telescopic fork
several times, then tighten the right clamping
screw (6).

Tightening torque:
Quick-release axle ....................................... 30 Nm
Clamping screws on quick-release axle ...... 20 Nm
Brake caliper to fork slider ........................... 30 Nm
