Note:
The Integral ABS brake system has four independ-
ent brake fluid circuits.
These are drained, bled and filled separately.
The control circuit leads from the handbrake / foot-
brake cylinder to the pressure modulator.
The wheel circuit leads from the pressure modulator
to the brake caliper. Pressure in this system is
boosted by a pump.

Preliminary work - front and rear wheel circuits

Note:
The control circuit must be filled with brake fluid.
The pressure modulator can only be drained using
the internal pump.

Draining rear wheel circuit

Remove the cover (3) from the reservoir (4).
Force back the brake pistons in the rear caliper
(
00.48).

Connect the brake bleeding device to the rear
brake caliper, but do not switch on.

Switch on the ignition.

Note:
After switching on the ignition, always wait for the
BMW Integral ABS to complete its self-diagnosis.
Do not operate the brake lever until self-diagnosis
has completed.
Gently press the footbrake lever; the pump starts
up.
Open the bleed screw at the brake caliper.
Drain the wheel circuit with the pump.
Close the bleed screw.
Release the brake lever.

Draining front wheel circuit

Use the same procedure as for the rear wheel cir-
cuit. Drain from the front brake calipers.

Remove the cover (2) from the reservoir (1).
Force back the brake pistons (

Gently pull the handbrake lever until the pump
starts up.

Drain the wheel circuit with the pump.

Attention:
Do not disconnect the connector from the ABS con-
trol unit.

Bleeding rear control circuit

Preliminary work - front and rear control circuits

Remove the cover (3) from the reservoir (4).
Drain rear control circuit.

Bleeding front control circuit

Preliminary work - front and rear control circuits

Remove reservoir cap with rubber diaphragm
from the handlebar fitting.
Drain the reservoir on the handlebar fitting.
Drain the front control circuit.
