Important:
Never use a hammer when slackening off hex
nut (4), or else the splines may be damaged.

Warning:
Hex nut (4) requires a high torque to loosen it.

Heat hex nut (4) on the input bevel pinion (5) to
100 °C (212 °F) and unscrew with a 36 mm
(1.4173 in) socket wrench insert and reducing
adapter, BMW No. 33 1 720.
Remove thrust ring (3).

Warning:
Threaded ring (2) requires a high torque to loosen it.
Heat the housing neck to 120 °C (248 °F) and un-
screw threaded ring (2) with pin wrench,
BMW No. 33 1 700.
Remove outer bearing race (1).
Remove locking arm (8).
Take out screws (7).
Remove housing cover (6).
