Assembling telescopic fork

Note:
Traces of oil on the surface can be interpreted as
leaks.
If necessary, remove oil from under the sealing
boot.

Important:
Check that copper washer is correctly seated.
Install oil drain plug with new copper washer.
Fill with oil.
Capacity per fork leg .................................... 0.51 l
Oil grade ........................BMW telescopic-fork oil
X
Tightening torque:
Oil drain plug................................................ 13 Nm
L
Note:
No routine maintenance is needed, and therefore
the fork oil does not have to be changed during In-
spections.
Install fixed tube.
Install washer.

Oil shaft sealing ring lightly and press it home on
sliding tube (1), using the combined weight (ar-
row) of drift, BMW No. 31 5 610, reducing adapt-
er with lugs, BMW No. 31 5 613, and sleeve,
BMW No. 31 5 614.
Install retaining ring.
Install fixed fork tube.
Install wiper.

After an accident, always examine the telescopic
fork for cracks and signs of damage.

Replace distorted slider tube bridge.

Do not straighten distorted fixed fork tubes: always

Measuring telescopic fork

Warning:

Check slider tube bridge

Important:
Check smoothness of slider tube bridge.
Checking the fixed fork tube for
Place both ends of fixed fork tube in V-blocks.
Turn fixed fork tube slowly and measure it with a
dial gauge, BMW No. 00 2 510.
