Change the rear brake fluid/bleeding
e
Attention:
During the replacement process, the brake fluid
level must not drop below the hose level or else air
will be drawn into the brake system.
d
Warning:
If the brake-fluid level in the reservoir does fall below
hose level, the wheel circuit must be refilled at the
brake caliper and bled once again (

•
Draw off the old brake fluid from the wheel-circuit
reservoir (4).
•
Undo the fasteners on the wheel circuit
reservoir (4).
•
Screw the filler bottle, BMW No. 34 1 581, onto
the rear wheel circuit reservoir.
•
Slowly fill the filler bottle, BMW No. 34 1 581, to
approximately 1/3 its capacity with new brake
fluid.
•
Wrap a cloth around the brake caliper.
•
Connect the brake bleeding device to the bleed
screw, but do not switch on the unit.
•
Switch on the ignition.
L
Note:
After switching on the ignition, always wait for the
BMW Integral ABS to complete its self-diagnosis.
Do not operate the brake lever until self-diagnosis
has completed.
•
Very gently press the footbrake lever until the
pump just starts up.
•
Open the bleed screw while topping up the filler
bottle with new brake fluid as necessary.
•
Pump out the brake fluid with virtually no pressu-
re to begin with, then vary the brake pressure.
L
Note:
The higher the brake pressure the faster the fluid is
pumped through the system, which means that the
level in the wheel-circuit reservoir drops all the more
rapidly.
•
When the brake fluid is clear and free of bubbles,
continue to pump off brake fluid just until no

more fluid is visible in the filler bottle.

•
Close the bleed screw.
•
Release the brake lever and switch off the igniti-
on.
•
Disconnect the brake bleeding device from the
bleed screw.
•
Remove the filler bottle from the wheel circuit re-
servoir.
•
Top up the wheel-circuit reservoir to the MAX

e
Attention:
After changing and/or bleeding the brakes, always
top up the fluid in the wheel-circuit reservoir to the
correct level in accordance with the instructions.
•
Fill rear wheel-circuit reservoir with brake fluid in
K41000100
accordance with instructions (

Attention:
After all the work on the brake system has been
completed, run a bleed test using the
BMW MoDiTeC!
