ISDN Network Extension Card

The ISDN Basic Rate Extension card (VI68706) presents an 8-way RJ45-style socket
compatible with the standard S0/T0 ISDN basic rate interface. This is used to connect
to the terrestrial ISDN network (in TE mode) or to any S0/T0 ISDN terminal device (in
NT mode). There is also a set of 8 DIL switches that should be set according to the
intended mode of operation and an array of 12 LEDs which give useful status
information at all times.
The BRI Extender card provides a means of representing a normal basic-rate ISDN service at a remote
site, just like the real thing. This is done by connecting the card at the hub site in TE (Terminal
Equipment) mode to the terrestrial network, either to a basic rate network presentation or to a digital
extension on a PBX and at the remote site, connecting the card in NT (Network) mode to the user's ISDN
terminal device. This is achieved using four logical channels between the BRI cards across the V100
network:
Channel 1 is dedicated to the BRI ISDN D Channel. This channel is permanent and requires a bandwidth
of 4800 bits/sec.
Channel 2 is dedicated to the ISDN B1 Channel and occupies a bandwidth of 64000 bits/sec when
required.
