In TE mode the card accepts the 48V supply from the network as a normal terminal device. In NT mode
the card provides the 48V supply for passive ISDN terminal equipment.
ISDN networks world-wide comply with ITU recommendation I.430 which defines a common physical
layer interface. However, several different and incompatible D-channel protocols have been implemented,
leading to problems for equipment manufacturers. The V100 ISDN BRI Extender card overcomes these
restrictions, since the extension technology converts data at the physical level S-bus interface and may
therefore be used world-wide.
The ISDN service may be provided either as a permanent connection or set up on-demand in response to
dialling requests from the network (at the TE end) or a terminal device (at the NT end), in which case the
bandwidth is reassigned by the V100 between calls.
NOTE: To ensure the optimum transmission efficiency and reliability, it is recommended that
the BRI Extender Card be the only equipment connected to the NT1 of the ISDN network. The
cable length should not exceed 1000m.
CHANNEL
The ISDN Basic Rate Extender card is presented as one logical channel, which comprises both 'B' channels
and the 'D' channel. It must always be referred to in mapping as channel number '1'.
