Proxy ARP (Address Resolution Protocol)

The
Proxy ARP
requests from its own LAN and from the LAN of defined WAN partners. If a host
in the LAN wants to set up a connection to another host in the LAN or to a WAN
partner but doesn't know its hardware address, it sends a so-called ARP re-
quest into the network as a
X4100/200/300
and the desired host can be reached over a WAN connection
defined as a host route,
hardware address. This is sufficient for establishing the connection: The
data packets
are sent to X4100/200/300, which then forwards them to
the desired host.
