8. Useful Information

Fixing Faults Yourself

Not every picture and sound fault means a defect in your
recorder.
Fault
No clock time indicated on the recorder/
the cassette is not pulled in.
The recorder cannot be operated,
the mains voltage supply is o.k.
Recording of TV programmes
not possible (only snow on
the picture screen).
Recording not possible.
A programmed Timer recording
was not carried out.
Poor quality of the picture from
cassette.
Operation with the remote control
is not possible.
For example, the cause of the fault might also be a cable acci-
dentally pulled out, a failure of the TV set, or a failure of the
transmitter or your TV aerial system.
Cause
Mains plug disconnected or bad
contact.
The electronic combination lock is
locked (display: » LOCKED « ).
Technical problem.
Aerial cable not connected.
Station to be recorded from not
tuned to on the recorder.
Failure of the TV transmitter in your
area or aerial system is defective.
The cassette is protected against
new recording.
Timer incorrectly programmed.
Incorrect entry of VPS time
for VPS controlled recordings.
Failure to press the button
after having interrupted the record
stand-by mode ( flashes).
TIMER
The TV set is not correctly
tuned to the transmitting channel of
the recorder.
The video heads are dirty.
The video heads are worn.
The batteries in the remote control
are exhausted.
The remote control is not
pointed at the recorder.
Incorrect function level adjusted
on the remote control.

Remedy
Insert mains plug or use another
wall socket.
Deactivate the lock.
Remove mains plug for 5 seconds.
Connect aerial cable.
Tune to station.
Check by selecting the station to be re-
corded on the TV set or ask your neighbor
whether he can receive this station.
Cover the hole with adhesive tape.
Correctly tune the TV set to the
transmitting channel of the recorder.
Have the heads cleaned by a specialist.
Have head wheels replaced by a specialist.
Insert new batteries.
Point the remote control at
the recorder.
Switch the remote control to
the right function level.
