3. The Cassette

Inserting the Cassette
Open the front cover of the recorder.
Push the cassette with the window facing upwards and the
label visible into the cassette compartment until it is automa-
tically pulled in.

Cassette Playing Time

After having inserted the cassette, the recorder will measure
the playing time (display » A T T S «) and indicate the total
playing time in hours if a standard hours cassette is used (for
example, » C 3 « for a 3 hour cassette) and the elapsed playing
time in hours and minutes.
If the cassette is protected against accidental erasure, the
recorder automatically switches to playback.
Indication of the total playing time
Cassette
E 060 (060 min.)
E 120 (120 min.)
E 180 (180 min.)
E 240 (240 min.)
In the case of an E 300 5 hour cassette, you must enter the
total playing time in order for the display of the total playing
time and elapsed playing time to be correct.

After starting a tape function, the elapsed playing time is indi-
cated in hours and minutes.
The display of the recorder indicates, for example: » C 3 « for
a 3 hour cassette and » O : O I « for 1 minute playing time
used.
If a non-standard cassette is used, the recorder automatically
switches to the 5-digit tape length indication.
The display of the recorder indicates, for example,
» O :O I :O 5 « .
When playing back recordings of NTSC broadcasts, the
recorder automatically switches to the 5-digit tape length
indication. The total playing time and elapsed playing time
are not displayed.
Entering the total playing time
In principle, it is possible to enter the total playing time (in
minutes) for any cassette.

A 5-digit number appears in the display of the recorder.
You can set the tape length indication to » O O O 0 O « by
pressing the
button.
When loading a cassette, the tape length indication is auto-
matically set to » O :O O :0 O « .
Press the
button once again to switch to the indication
of the total and the elapsed playing times.
